Six Novocastrians and one Central Coast Futsal player have been selected to compete in the AFA Australian Women's Team in an International Futsal Tournament, the UK CUP, to be held in Scotland from the 15th of October 2025.
The Tournament is a lead-up in preparation for an IFA World Tournament planned for Athens, Greece, in 2026
After a great season in the AFA National League, the women playing for the Newcastle Titans won the League and Grand Finals, and the men won their League but missed out in the Grand Finals. Then, in January, both NNSW Futsal state teams dominated the AFA Nationals.
AFA Technical Director Scott Gilligan and our NNSW Futsal Women's coach and CEO, George Poulos, will coach the teams.
George was thrilled that so many NNSW Futsal girls were chosen, as it shows how much women's Futsal has developed in the Newcastle/Hunter Valley and Central Coast region. Poulos hopes these achievements will inspire all Futsal players to keep evolving and aim for the pinnacle of any sport: to represent their country.
As the season report shows, WPL players Sieanna Denholm, Sienna Fraser–Kelly, and former Jets player Tara Andrews were dominant in the recently completed AFA National League.
They will be joined by current NNSW Futsal Women's captain Talah Bryde, NNSW Futsal Goalkeeper Brianna Redding, and Fixo sensation Freya Clifton. Natalie and Milkenkovski, a versatile keeper and field player from the winning NNSW /Central Coast Youth team at the Nationals held last January, have also cemented a spot.
Our NNSW Futsal men also feature, with two Novocastrians, Jack Jones and Lawrence Huag, being part of an 11-man Australian team. Both featured well in the AFA National League and the National Club Tournament in January.
Congratulations and best wishes to them all.
